World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Learners by Youg Zhao

The Need for Entrepreneurs

  • Youth unemployment is a devastating epidemic globally. The same forces that created unemployment are potentially the same forces that may help create jobs. As human beings become more productive, through the advancement of technology, more efficient organization of production, and more powerful energy sources, there will be even more people looking for new work. While an increasing number of traditional jobs will be lost due to increased productivity, many more jobs can be created because more people will have the income to consume more and more diverse products and services.
  • We need more people to become entrepreneurs who seek to take advantage of what has been made possible by globalization and technological changes to create jobs. In the US, only 7.6% of people between 18 and 64 are engaged in starting a business. This lack of entrepreneurial spirit is a result of an educational tradition that has been focused on producing employees who are taught to look for jobs and wait for orders.
