Dr. Doug’s Flood of 2011 Story Page 7 added 9/23

9/16 Update

  • Today’s lesson is that you can’t have too many friends. In addition to Jan Slack, I have had many others, including people I had never met, help in many ways. My remaining clothes are cleaner than they were before the flood. I have offers for furniture from several people. Some drive by and drop off food, gift certificates, and clothes. After entering my FEMA application online a few days ago, I was greeted by a young man from Texas who took the detail of my losses on his laptop. I may be the last guy in the region who needs FEMA money, but ironically, I may be the 1st to get a check. Life is officially unfair. Here is the view from my new 3rd floor apartment.
