9/21 Update

  • My bank account now shows a $1198 deposit from FEMA. The reason they gave me this money is to rent a temporary apartment. I think I’ll put it towards a new couch as my mattress in my “living room” really sucks as a couch. I have been volunteering at one of the sites where a Binghamton elementary school has been relocated. It is an empty Catholic school, which has Bible verses written on the walls. Let me know if you want to know which ones. When we opened we had no computers and no PA. We did the old town crier approach to get information to the 11 classrooms. As a retired principal I am kind of a volunteer on steroids. I don’t hesitate to let the acting principals know what I think, and they often take my advice.
The debris pile in front of my new 3rd floor apt is huge, but it gets a bit smaller as pickers stop by. My new dwelling is like camping as my camping furniture was in my van and survived. I now have real Internet and cable so I am back to my former entertainment/work status. One bedroom is full of stuff I saved while the other still holds another refugees’ stuff. I am thankful for a cold spell as the debris pile doesn’t smell too bad.
