Now You See It by Cathy Davidson

Introduction

  • Cathy opens with an account of her experience with the famous Invisible Gorilla experiment. (See my summary of Simons and Chabis book and the video of their experiment via the links below.) As a dyslexic, Cathy couldn’t count the number of passes by the white team, which is why she saw the gorilla while many accurate counters missed it. This introduces the idea of attention blindness and offers her explanation that even if we are all watching the same thing, we don’t all see the same thing. She sees selective attention as an opportunity for collaboration rather than a brain defect. As such, this book can be a field guide and survival manual for the digital age.
