Growing Up Global: Raising Children to Be At Home in the World – Book Summary

Sustain Your Friendship – Service and Giving

  • So what’s the point of gaining global awareness if you don’t take action to be a good global citizen? Service to your local or global community takes time and this may be a challenge. Service to others can offer intrinsic rewards as it enhances one’s resume. Work with children so they can develop there own vision of how they want to contribute and help them understand that small contributions add up. General areas include caring for the environment, fighting poverty, and educating others. You can use Homa’s many examples of what people can do to help others and our planet to get started.
  • Doug: I always look for opportunities to do unexpected acts of kindness. Sometimes things just fall into your lap. It can involve something small like helping someone carry a heavy suitcase up the subway stairs or something more substantial like donating money to help my local Y rebuild after a flood.
