How To Place Purposeful Bets

  • Among Picasso’s 50,000+ works there was a lot of crap. Apple has a 90% failure rate. Angry Birds was the company’s 52nd game. The idea is to make lots of small bets and to test them with the smallest executable step that can test the validity of your project. Avoid a focus on potential return on your investment (ROI), which is fraught with problems in an uncertain world. You should rather focus on calculating your affordable loss. If your idea doesn’t work, you should have resources to try other things. No ROI could predict the success of Angry Birds. The final piece is to be driven by an intrinsic motivator such as passion. Passion is what can sustain your efforts. This is often lost on some organizations at their own cost.
