The Reading Workout: A 30-Day Plan That Turns Teenagers into Readers by Chris Beatty

The Rest of Week 1

  • As Mark Twain said, “work is what you have to do, play is what you don’t have to do.” It’s important to read what you want to read so Chris gives you some help coming up with a list of things you are interested in. To get started he suggests picking up two interesting magazines and reading some articles from start to finish. Be sure to find a place that is comfortable, and where there are no distractions.
  • As you continue to read more articles in anticipation of your first library trip, you can go to an Internet site that sells books and enter things you are interested in the search box. On the last day of week 1 you will pick up a physical Sunday paper. As you read and skim through it, be sure to jot down things you find interesting on your interest list.
