The School Mission Statement – My 70th Book Summary

Creating Your Own Mission Statement

  • In developing a mission statement, the first step is to consider what themes are most central to your school’s purpose. The list in this book provides an easy way to get started. This chapter presents each of the 11 themes in order of the frequency they occur across the 111 mission statement in this book. Each of the 11 sections states the aspects of each theme mentioned and a list of the schools that include it in their statements along with page numbers. This makes it easy to reference how others use it.
  • For example, the cognitive development theme has four aspects. They are: knowledge and skills, academic attitude, academic achievement, and academic curriculum. Sample language is included for each theme and aspect.
