Why Social Media Matters: Book Summary

Blogging 101

  • A blog is an opportunity for a superintendent or a principal to cultivate a more personal relationship with his or her stakeholders and explore issues often overlooked in the daily hustle and bustle of school life. Start with a plan. Kitty and Meg suggest three possible goals that you can choose any or all of. They are: 1) Connect the community to the school, 2) Reveal your human side, and 3) Provide thought leadership. They give examples with links of educators who have each of these goals. Blogs are easy to start. The issue you need to confront is sustainability. You need to post new material at least weekly. Check in more often to respond to comments your customers leave. Be sure the blog is linked to the district’s web site and Facebook page. Send out a tweet any time you post something new.
