Why Social Media Matters: Book Summary

Stakeholder Technology Use

  • Kitty and Meg offer statistics to show how common Internet and social media use are today. You may want to consider surveying your district to see what fraction of the community has Internet access and how many of your customers use social media. Wealthier districts may be near 100% while poorer districts might be closer to 50%. Even some people without access at home may surf regularly at work or a local library. You can also survey cellphone/smartphone use and where people get their news. None the less, the numbers are significant as virtually all community leaders have access and have at least some understanding of social media. You should also have some idea of which generation each of you stakeholders comes from. Kitty and Meg provide characteristics for each generational group you might face.
