Why Social Media Matters: Book Summary

Your Relationship With The Media

  • Most reporters use blogs and social media sites as sources and your stakeholders are already there. Ideally you will get your story out first and respond to negative and inaccurate comments before the press picks them up to report. If not, you need to have a good working relationship with the reporters who cover your school so you can defend yourself and correct errors. Be sure that someone checks the local news sites daily for school reporting and comments. Since reporters will often check your school’s site for information, make sure you post your points and corrections to published errors as often as possible. If you haven’t been doing this, go to the web sites of your local media, search for your school, and check the comments left with the articles you find.
