The Little Book of Talent by Daniel Coyle

Create the Spark and Use It

  • One key to igniting your motivation is to stare at vivid images of what you want to be every day. Even brief connections with role models can increase motivation. For example, in 1997 there was one successful female golfer in South Korea. Others followed her example and there are now 40 on the LPGA tour. Even pictures and videos can work. Bookmark YouTube videos of your heroes. Try to spend at least fifteen minutes a day closely watching the skills you want to learn being performed at a high level. Examples include playing classic chess games, typing great literature, and repeating great speeches. There is no need to apologize for stealing from top performers. “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.” Pablo Picasso
