Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? by Seth Godin

There Is No Map

  • If there is a map, there is no art. You either forge your own path or become a cog. You need to discover a route from one place to another that hasn’t been paved, measured, and quantified. You need to know the difference between which parts of your environment you can change, and which parts you can’t. Smart organizations seek out people with the ability to see the world as it actually is. But that skill is worthless if you don’t acknowledge the truth and share it.
  • Revenge is a bad idea. If you try to teach someone a lesson, you will rarely succeed in changing them, and you will fail to make your day better. Don’t spend time on things out of your control. Accept difficult situations and work to improve them. Linchpins figure out what to do next.
