Should Educators Talk of The Bar or Your Bar?

  • Thus we have a system where every student takes the same test based on their born-on date regardless of their ability. This includes students with disabilities and English Language learners. I’m sure like me, you recall the term jock being used in a manner that implied that athletes were not so smart. Ironically, when it comes to the use of the bar, the world of athletics gets it right. They also get it right in events that are bar-free. In the mile run, for example, each runner is allowed to finish at their own pace. If the mile were a classroom event, kids who didn’t finish in an arbitrarily set time would have to get some extra help and try the entire race again from the starting line.
