Is Homeschooling the Answer?

• Budget cuts continue to plague schools across the nation. Every day, we are hearing stories about teacher layoffs or about educators who are making due with fewer resources and more students in a cramped classroom. At the same time, debates continue about how best to teach controversial subjects such as evolution or sex education, and standardized testing is proving to be problematic. Bullying and school violence seem to have reached epidemic proportions, and all that is just skimming the surface.
• More parents are opting out of the system, choosing to homeschool their children. Not only does this have many benefits for parents and students, but also for the government. Estimates vary, but experts say that parents who homeschool their children are saving the government billions of dollars each year in taxpayer money.
