Super Guest Post on ADHD Issues by Melissa Hathaway

Moving Forward

  • So, if the ADHD epidemic is situational rather than biological, the solution will require the work of everyone involved in the education of our children. Parents must support the brave teachers and school districts lobbying for change, and policymakers must understand the story that education research is presenting to them. It is only through this kind of sustained, interdependent work that changes will be made. Until then, educators and parents should consider treating ADHD symptoms as the canary in a coal mine: something is wrong, and something should be done. The key difference is that when locating the “something wrong”, they should look first to the child’s situation, and what “should be done” might just start with themselves, not the child.
